The Faba Galaica variety is a breeding line selected from local material grown in the coastal zone of Lugo province. The plant is adapted to the temperate climate of Galicia with sufficient rainfall and is intended for the production of dry grain, which holds Protected Geographical Indication status.

The grain is characterized by an ability to absorb water exceeding 100% of its own mass. After thermal processing, the skin is practically imperceptible, accounting for 8–10% of the mass, and the pulp acquires a pasty, creamy consistency without forming lumps. When boiled, the grains retain their shape and integrity without falling apart.
