Tolosana is not a single breeding variety, but a collection of local bean varieties adapted to the conditions of the Basque Country. The plants have a predominantly bush growth habit and are characterized by a long vegetation period of approximately 85 days.
The grains of this variety type are most often described as oval, medium-sized, and dark purple or nearly black in color. Depending on the specific ecotype, morphological parameters may vary. Local forms of this bean type are susceptible to common pathogens, in particular the bacterium Pseudomonas axonopodis pv. phaseolicola.
