The Odenwalder variety belongs to forage crops. In comparative trials, the progeny of this variety demonstrated earlier heading dates compared to other lines. Studies note the presence of good spring growth indicators, although overall seasonal productivity in a number of trials was inferior to specialized breeding lines.
The scientific literature records a high degree of susceptibility of the variety to choke disease, the causative agent of which is Epichloe typhina. When using seed material, it is recommended to take into account the possibility of confusion with varieties of other crops of the same name, such as red clover or perennial ryegrass.
