The Noreng variety is intended for use as a forage crop in the conditions of northern Norway. It is characterized as a synthetic variety obtained by selecting genotypes from two original Norwegian populations: Engmo and Grindstad.
The plant possesses adaptation to the northern climate, in particular to freezing conditions. Studies note an intermediate level of resistance of the variety to ice crust compared to its parent forms: Noreng surpasses the Grindstad variety in this indicator, but is inferior to the Engmo variety.
Specific agronomic data on morphology or exact maturity group for this variety are not provided in the scientific literature. The main volume of data is focused on genetic studies, winter stress resistance, and mechanisms of adaptation to high latitudes.
