The variety Vėlenis belongs to late-maturing forms of Timothy-grass. Under Lithuanian climatic conditions, the start of heading is observed around June 21, and the onset of full hard seed maturity occurs on August 29.
The plant is versatile, used as a forage crop, and valued for good palatability and nutritional properties. The main purpose is haymaking; the variety is also used in grass mixtures for the establishment of sown meadows and pastures.
