The main morphological feature of this variety is the afila-type mutation, in which leaves are transformed into numerous tendrils. This allows plants to cling to each other, forming a stable structure and providing good aeration of the crops, which reduces the risk of fungal disease development, including powdery mildew and Ascochyta blight.
Plants have a compact stem up to 50–55 cm tall. Pods are dark green in color and contain 6–9 seeds each. The purpose of the variety includes fresh consumption, canning, freezing, as well as cultivation for microgreens.
The term afila has become a common noun for a group of varieties with this type of mutation, which leads to variability in characteristics across different sources, particularly regarding maturity timing.
