The variety Pika gained prevalence in Finnish agriculture in 1986, reaching the peak of its popularity in the 1990s. In official field trials, it was often used as a control sample when evaluating the yield and characteristics of other varieties in northern climate conditions.

The economic purpose of the variety was its use as a fodder crop intended for the needs of pig farming. Currently, the variety is considered historical and has given way in the breeding catalog to more modern pea varieties.
