Breeding work to develop the Ratar variety was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb. The breeding program was based on the use of local Croatian landraces.
At present, there is a lack of detailed data on the morphological and agronomic traits of the plant, such as maturity group, stem height, disease resistance, or qualitative yield characteristics.
