The variety was created in Denmark with the participation of the company FDB Frø under the direction of breeder Reinhardt Christensen. The inclusion of the variety in official lists and trial documentation refers to the period of the 1950s–1960s.
In specialized Danish variety registers, "Safir" is classified as a pea variety (Pisum sativum L.) that underwent trials in 1963–1965. Detailed data on plant height, resistance to lodging, or maturity group are not presented in published materials.
