The variety is classified as a nectarine, possessing the characteristic absence of pubescence on the fruit. It presumably arose as a mutation of the Elberta peach variety, and from this variety itself the Globerta nectarine was obtained.
The plant requires a long period of winter dormancy; the chilling requirement is approximately 1150 hours at temperatures below 7°C. The yield of the variety may decrease during spring frosts in the bud break phase.
