The variety is a seedling of unknown origin discovered in the 1940s in the town of Turi. Fruits of medium weight (100–200 g) are distinguished by a deep cavity at the base and a pronounced suture line. The skin of medium thickness is colored yellow-green with a reddish blush.
The fruits are traditionally used for processing but are also suitable for fresh consumption. The variety is part of the agricultural biodiversity of Apulia and is also known by the name 'Percoco di Turi'.
