The fruits are large, flattened at the base and apex, with a noticeable suture. The skin is thin, has delicate pubescence, and is colored greenish-yellow with an intense bright red blush. The white flesh is very juicy, tender, and melting, with a wine-like flavor; the stone separates freely from the fruit.
The variety shows a tendency toward bud mutations, which gave rise to its early and late forms. Historically, the tree was often grown on trellises and is distinguished by relatively better resistance to diseases and pests compared to other heirloom varieties. It is used both for fresh consumption and for culinary purposes.
