The variety Valley Gem belongs to the group of brachytic dwarf peaches, the size of which is controlled by the recessive dw allele of the Dw/dw gene. The variety was created as part of a breeding program to develop compact trees, allowing for the elimination of ladder use in commercial orchards.
The fruits are characterized by a bright yellow ground color of the skin with slight short pubescence and firm flesh. Regarding the stone-adhesion type, the variety is a freestone. In California conditions, the fruits ripen in the period from August 16 to August 23.
