The rootstock is an interspecific hybrid of Prunus tomentosa and Prunus cerasifera, bred at the Krymsk Experimental Breeding Station. The plant is used exclusively as a dwarfing rootstock; its fruits have no consumer value.
As a rootstock, it restricts tree growth to 2.5–4 meters, which is 50–75% of the size on standard rootstocks. It promotes early onset of fruiting and increases the yield efficiency of grafted crops.
It is characterized by high winter hardiness and adaptability to various soil types, including heavy and wet ones. However, there are noted compatibility issues with a number of peach and apricot varieties, as well as a possible susceptibility to root rot or chlorosis in highly calcareous soils.
