The ‘White Icicle’ (synonym ‘Ubric’) variety is a decorative form of the Ribes sanguineum species. The plant has a spreading crown and reaches 1.8–2.5 meters in height with a width of 1.8–2 meters. The leaves are aromatic, lobed, bright green with pubescence, and can turn yellow in the autumn.
The main decorative feature of the variety is abundant flowering from March to May with long drooping racemes of white flowers. The plant produces blue-black berries with a waxy bloom, which are non-edible and serve as food for birds.
The variety is frost-resistant and drought-tolerant once established, and also relatively resistant to urban pollution. It is used in landscape design for solitary and group plantings, and for creating hedges. Pruning after flowering is recommended to maintain the crown shape.
