The variety "Mountain" is mentioned in the context of early Swedish breeding as a hybrid of Ribes hirtellum and Ribes uva-crispa, which was used to transfer resistance to powdery mildew. Currently, it is almost never encountered as an independent commercial variety.
In English-language literature, the term "Mountain gooseberry" more often refers to wild species Ribes montigenum or Ribes oxyacanthoides rather than to cultivated forms. In Russian-language sources, the name "Amerikanskiy gornyy" sometimes describes a vigorous shrub with a sparse crown, high resistance to Sphaerotheca, and medium-sized dark red sweet-and-sour berries.
