Narcea is an ancient cultivated rose variety discovered in the mountainous region of Asturias. Genetically, the plant is a natural hybrid that retains traits of Rosa centifolia and Rosa gallica.
The flowers of the variety are double, have a red-purple color, an intense fragrance, and number from 60 to 70 petals. The bush has leaves with five leaflets and is equipped with thorns. Flowering occurs once in the period from May to June.
The chemical composition of the petals is distinguished by an increased content of polyphenols, such as derivatives of quercetin and kaempferol, which determines the industrial use of the variety for cosmetic, gastronomic, and medicinal purposes. The plant is adapted to the climatic conditions of mountainous regions.
