The variety Strumynka is a perennial herbaceous plant that can reach a height of 1.5 meters. It has a thin stem with rough bark and broad leaves.

The plant is used as medicinal raw material, represented by rhizomes and roots, and also as dye raw material. The rhizomes contain anthraquinones, organic acids, proteins, and sugars.
