The plant is a shrub or small tree 1.5–3 meters high with a densely branched spherical crown. The narrow elliptical leaves are bright pink when unfolding, later becoming variegated white-green. The thin flexible shoots have a reddish-olive hue.
The variety has winter hardiness within USDA zones 4–5 and is resistant to wind and leaf scorching in the sun. The plant tolerates formative pruning well, including cutting back to the stump to stimulate the growth of bright young shoots.
Used in landscape design as a specimen plant, in group compositions, mixed borders, and hedges. Flowering occurs in the second half of April.
