The variety is a chance seedling discovered in plantings of the Iona variety. It is a slow-growing plant that has a prostrate habit when grown as a groundcover, and acquires a weeping habit when grafted onto a standard. The plant's shoots quickly lose their pubescence, acquiring a reddish-brown hue.
Flowering occurs in early spring, in February–March, and is accompanied by the appearance of silvery catkins with yellow stamens, on which pinkish-red dots sometimes appear. Over 10 years, the shrub reaches a height of about 50 cm.
The plant possesses high winter hardiness, corresponding to USDA zone 5a, and is capable of withstanding temperatures down to -26…-28°C. To maintain its shape, severe pruning of spent shoots to 10 cm from the graft union is recommended.
The variety is suitable for use as a groundcover plant on slopes, as well as for cultivation in containers and baskets.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
