Botanical identification of specimens sold under the name Salvia nana 'Curling Waves' indicates that the plant belongs to the species Salvia gomezpompae. The variety is a compact perennial with a height of 30 to 45 cm, distinguished by ornamental foliage and prolonged flowering.
The plant prefers sunny sites with well-drained soils and possesses winter hardiness down to -20°C. The variety was introduced into cultivation based on specimen BSWJ10272, collected in Mexico in 2004, and is used exclusively for ornamental purposes.
