The variety is a compact, densely branched shrub 1–3 meters in height. The foliage is pinnate, having a bronze-red hue when budding, which later changes to bright lemon-yellow, and may take on a greenish tone by summer.
Flowering occurs in early spring with small cream-white flowers in paniculate inflorescences on the previous year's wood. In summer, small bright red berries mature, which are not suitable for human consumption. The plant tolerates pruning well, prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations and moderately moist soils.
