The variety is an old folk cultivar of winter rye, which is preserved to maintain genetic diversity and as an element of cultural and historical heritage. It was brought to Finland by a soldier from the Olonets region in the 1940s.
This variety is not commercial and is not intended for intensive industrial cultivation; therefore, standardized agronomic characteristics such as yield or disease resistance indices are absent. Cultivation of the plant is carried out using traditional manual methods on specialized historical farms.
