The Marbio variety, also known under the experimental designation MAR-2, is one of the first breeding developments of Silphium perfoliatum in Poland. The crop is used as an alternative to maize for the production of biomass subject to anaerobic digestion.
Plants of this species reach a height of 1.8 to 3.5 meters and are characterized by high adaptability to growing conditions. Plantations can be exploited for 15 years or more. Besides its energy purpose, the crop is used as a honey-bearing and forage plant.
