The Laurano 70 variety is used both for fresh market sales and for processing into pastes and purées. It served as the basis for breeding the Power Rano hybrid by crossing with the Power variety.

The plant possesses relative drought tolerance, which allows for harvesting during dry seasons. The variety is included in the list of those officially recommended for cultivation in Ghana, which indicates its adaptation to local agro-climatic conditions and resistance to a number of diseases and nematodes.
