De Penjar or Ramellet represents a group of local folk varieties adapted to Mediterranean conditions. The fruits are distinguished by dense skin and a fleshy structure, while their key genetic feature is the presence of the alc (alcobaça) gene, which ensures slow ripening and the possibility of fresh storage during the winter period.
Plants of this group possess high drought tolerance. The fruits have small sizes and a round or slightly elongated shape. Due to their specific flavor, they are more often used for preparing sauces, stewed dishes, or as a base for traditional bread with tomato, as the pulp easily separates from the skin.
