The Donatus hybrid is officially registered as a tomato rootstock. It is not a tomato variety for fruit yield and is used as a base for grafting other varieties.

The primary purpose of this material is to provide resistance to soil-borne pathogens, increase the vigor of the scion, and improve plant adaptation to growing conditions. Morphological characteristics of the plant, such as height or fruit taste qualities, are irrelevant for this rootstock.
