Esquenaverd is a conservation variety, a characteristic feature of which is the presence of a green area around the peduncle that persists as the fruit ripens. Translated from Catalan, the name means "green back".

The variety belongs to the "hanging" tomato group, which possesses a high storage capacity after harvest. It is traditionally used fresh, including for the preparation of tomato bread. The plant is productive and adapted to the climatic conditions of the region of origin.
