The variety is a greenhouse tomato with medium-sized fruits. In the scientific community, it is widely used as a model organism for genetic, physiological, and molecular biological research, in particular for studying gene expression, fruit development, and reactions to stress factors.
In experiments on the interaction with parasitic plants, the FERUM variety showed susceptibility to Phelipanche aegyptiaca. The line is often used in comparative studies and for creating populations for trait mapping alongside other specialized tomato specimens.
