The HPG F1 rootstock is used in agronomy to increase the resistance of tomatoes to a complex of diseases, including Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt races 1 and 2, Fusarium root rot, corky root, nematodes, and tobacco mosaic virus.

Scientific studies note that the use of this rootstock affects the response of grafted plants to soil salinity, with productivity results potentially varying depending on growing conditions.
