The Piranto variety is a hybrid that was used in studies evaluating yield and taste qualities. The fruits of the variety were used in trials for processing, in particular for juice production.

The plant possesses resistance to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and tolerance to corky root rot, caused by Pyrenochaeta lycopersici, which allowed it to be cultivated in infested soils.
