The variety is an heirloom traditionally associated with the Provence region of France and has been mentioned in European seed catalogs since 1938. The vegetation period until fruit harvest is approximately 65 days.

The fruits are large, red, and slightly flattened in shape with characteristic ribbing in the upper part. The variety is intended for cultivation in open field conditions to obtain an early harvest.

Due to the long origin of the variety, there are various strains, which leads to conflicting data regarding the plant's growth type—in different sources it is described as determinate or indeterminate.
