The variety is classified as a landrace, endemic to the southeastern regions of Spain. It belongs to the category of conservation varieties and is maintained by research institutes as an example of the local gene pool, rather than as a commercial hybrid.

Studies confirm the high adaptability of the tomato to saline soils. Under salinity conditions, the plant shows good yield and fruit quality indicators compared to a number of commercial varieties.
