The Aranguez variety is a landrace originating from Trinidad. In breeding, it was used by the INRA institute in the Antilles for developing hybrids, such as Kalenda.
The plant possesses resistance to anthracnose (Phomopsis vexans) and displays a certain tolerance to bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum), although the degree of susceptibility to the latter may vary depending on growing conditions and pathogen strains.
