The G 499GBR hybrid is a grain sorghum variety intended for agricultural production. It was widely used in scientific research as a reference sample for studying plant pathology.
During phytopathological trials, it was established that this hybrid is a poor host for various species of root-knot nematodes (including Meloidogyne incognita, M. arenaria, and M. javanica), which allows it to be used in crop rotations to suppress the population of these pests in the soil. The hybrid was also investigated for its reaction to maize dwarf mosaic virus.
