The G 550 hybrid was used in scientific research aimed at evaluating the suitability of grain for food purposes. During sensory evaluations of sorghum processing products, this North American hybrid demonstrated satisfactory results.

In the literature of the 1980s, the hybrid is mentioned in connection with pest resistance tests. It was established that G 550 is susceptible to infestation by the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita and was also tested for resistance to the sunn pest.
