Hybrids of this type occupy an intermediate position between sorghum and sudangrass. They are characterized by the ability for intensive tillering and rapid regrowth after mowing or grazing. The plant stems are thinner than those of silage sorghum varieties, but coarser than those of pure sudangrass.

The plants possess high heat and drought tolerance, but may be susceptible to specific pests, in particular the sugarcane aphid. The nutritional value of the produce is highest before the onset of heading, as fiber content increases and nutritional value decreases with plant development.
