The variety has Savoy-type leaves with pronounced crinkling and forms a compact plant with an upright leaf arrangement. A characteristic feature is the smooth seeds, which lack spines.

The plant belongs to early-maturing types with rapid development and a tendency for early bolting. The variety originally possessed immunity to the first race of downy mildew and was intended for autumn, winter, and spring cultivation, being used both fresh and in the canning industry.
