The variety Vroeg Scherp belongs to the category of prickly-seeded spinach, having characteristic seeds with spines. It is historically classified as a variety for early cultivation, and in agronomic studies of previous years it was used as a typical representative of the prickly-seeded group when studying seed germination energy.
The variety is practically not found in modern catalogs. It should be distinguished from the variety Vroeg Reuzenblad, which is a separate fast-growing and cold-resistant variety with large leaves, intended for cultivation under glass and in the open field.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
