The variety Polynema is positioned as a specialized hybrid intended for the control of soil-borne nematodes, in particular root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne. The plant is used as a preceding crop for the cultivation of vegetable crops such as tomatoes and melons.

The efficacy of the variety in suppressing pests depends on the nematode species and growing conditions. It is noted, however, that the variety may exhibit susceptibility to certain species, for example, the reniform nematode Rotylenchulus reniformis. The morphological and agronomic characteristics of the plant are not recorded in publications.
