The AK34W genotype is used in breeding programs as a baseline object for the analysis of genome structure, genetic diversity, and morphology of Thlaspi arvense. Research is aimed at studying the crop's potential as an oilseed plant for biofuel production.

Morphologically, the AK34W line is distinguished by a larger root system compared to other genotypes, which is manifested in a greater total length of roots and lateral branches. This object is also known as the line for which the reference genome has been sequenced and annotated.
