The variety was selected from the species Thymus vulgaris L. using samples of Czech origin, although some studies mention the species Thymus sibthorpii Bentham. The plant is characterized by a slower growth rate compared to some other thyme varieties.

The chemical composition of the essential oil of the Slava variety differs from common thymol chemotypes and contains mainly geraniol, geranyl acetate, and neral. The essential oil content varies from 0.46% to 1.08%, and the yield of above-ground biomass reaches 6–13 tons per hectare with the possibility of harvesting twice per season.

In the conditions of the Eastern Rhodopes (Bulgaria), the full flowering phase occurs in the first ten days of June. Due to its specific aroma, resembling notes of citral, the variety is used in pharmaceuticals, perfumery, cosmetics, and the food industry.
