Tibouchina urvilleana is an evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching a height of up to 3 meters in cultivation and up to 4–6 meters in natural conditions. The plant's leaves are dark green, often with a red margin, and are covered with hairs.

The variety's flowers are large, with a diameter of 5 to 13 cm, colored bright violet or purple, and equipped with long stamens. The plant is a heat-loving tropical or subtropical species, sensitive to growing conditions.
