The plant is biennial. In the first year of life, it forms a basal rosette of leaves; in the second year, it forms an erect stem from 60 to 150 cm tall. The root crops have white flesh, which exudes milky sap when broken.

The variety is used as a culinary vegetable crop. The root crops, as well as young shoots and leaves, are consumed. The crop is distinguished by cold hardiness and relative resistance to diseases and pests.
