The plant forms upright stems with long elliptical stiff short-pubescent leaves. The star-shaped flowers with a diameter of 3–6 cm have a rich dark red or purple-carmine color with small yellow spots. The height of an adult plant varies from 40 to 80 cm.
The variety is late-blooming, the flowering period falls in August–October. The plant has winter hardiness within USDA zones 5–6 and requires mulching. It prefers locations protected from the sun with moist, loose, humus-rich, well-drained soils; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
In gardening, it is used for group plantings, decorating mixed borders, flower beds, and growing in containers. There is a professional opinion that the characteristic coloration is a consequence of a viral infection, which reduces the endurance and longevity of the plants compared to wild species forms.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
