The Axi variety is used as a forage and cover crop, in particular in vineyards. It is valued for intense plant biomass accumulation and a significant contribution to nitrogen accumulation in the soil.

Under field conditions in Sardinia, the variety demonstrated a dry matter yield in the range of 4.16–5.50 t/ha. The variety is widely used in agricultural production in Italy.
