The variety belongs to hexaploid forms. In European protocols for distinctness, uniformity and stability testing, the variety is used as an example for characterizing the presence of pubescence on the outer surface of the lower glume.
Compared to later triticale varieties, BACUM possesses a number of disadvantages: low threshability, a tendency to grain shattering, and a relatively low grain volume weight.
