The Borba variety was bred by the Portuguese breeding station EMP in Elvas. Its creation marked a milestone in the development of local triticale breeding in Portugal.
Compared to the Bacum, Arabian, and Beagle varieties, this variety has a lower tendency for grain shattering, is easier to thresh, and is characterized by a higher hectolitre weight.
