The variety is a fiber form of the stinging nettle Urtica dioica convar. fibra. Plants are perennial and capable of reaching a height of up to 250 centimeters.
The main economic trait is the high fiber content in the stems compared to wild-growing species. The plant is demanding in terms of growing conditions: it poorly tolerates water stagnation, severe frosts, alkaline soils, and requires weed protection during the initial growth period.
