The plant is robust and upright, reaching a height of about 100 cm. A distinctive feature of the variety is its long pods, reaching 30 cm, which hang downwards. Each pod usually forms 5–7 large beans. When ripening, the seeds may have a characteristic black spot or a white hilum.
The variety is late-maturing and requires staking when grown in windy areas. The plants are not frost-hardy. During culinary processing, the beans tend to darken, and their flavor is characterized as slightly bitter.
